According to the Center for Disease Control, flu is widespread throughout most states in the country, including Texas. It is important to see a Medical Doctor if you think you might have the flu. We sat down with Kara Gilbreath, our Clinical Director, to get some helpful information regarding flu season.

What are the signs and symptoms of the flu?

Body aches, fever, chills, headache and sinus congestion.  Sometimes you can experience nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.  You may also feel very fatigued and weak.

What can be done to help prevent the flu?

Avoid close contact and stay home when you are sick. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, also wash your hands often and thoroughly. Drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious foods.

In addition to on-site flu a and b testing, Davam Urgent Care also offers the flu shot to aid as a preventative method. It is important to know that the flu shot is not always 100 percent effective. According to the Center for Disease Control, recent studies show the flu vaccine reduces the risk of flu illness by about 50%  to 60%”. It is still possible to get the flu after receiving the flu shot.
